How we work
Our Approach
Skills for a life worth living.
Our approach is rooted in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy — one of the most researched and effective therapies for people who experience intense emotions. We make it accessible, human, and practical.
What is DBT?
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy was developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan to help people build a life worth living. It combines acceptance and change — meeting you exactly where you are, while giving you the tools to move forward.
Mindfulness
The foundation of DBT. Learning to observe your thoughts and feelings without being swept away by them.
Distress Tolerance
Skills for surviving crisis moments without making things worse — because sometimes we just need to get through.
Emotion Regulation
Understanding your emotions, reducing vulnerability, and changing emotional responses that aren't serving you.
Interpersonal Effectiveness
Building and maintaining relationships, asking for what you need, and saying no — all while keeping your self-respect.
How we support you
At Lived + Learned, we believe that healing and growth are strengthened through connection, understanding, and practical skills.
We are not therapists, and we do not provide psychotherapy, diagnosis, or crisis treatment. Instead, we offer peer support, education, encouragement, and DBT-informed skills through the unique combination of lived experience and learned experience.
One of us brings the perspective of living the journey. One of us brings the perspective of walking alongside someone we love. Together, we create a welcoming space where both experiences are valued, respected, and honored.
Our goal is simple: to help people feel less alone, more understood, and more confident taking one small step forward.
A conversation first
We start with a no-pressure chat to understand where you are and what you're looking for. No forms, no assessments — just a real conversation.
Skills, your way
We work through DBT skills at your pace, in a way that fits your life. Whether that's one-on-one support, group workshops, or self-guided resources.
Practice in real life
Skills only work when you use them. We help you apply what you're learning to the moments that matter most.
Ongoing support
Healing isn't linear. We're here for the setbacks as much as the breakthroughs — and we celebrate every brick you lay.
Who we work with
Individuals
People who experience intense emotions and want practical skills to build a more balanced, connected life.
Loved ones
Family members and friends who want to better understand and support someone they love — without losing themselves in the process.
Anyone curious
You don't need a diagnosis to benefit from DBT skills. If you're human and life feels hard sometimes, these tools are for you.
